Carlsberg’s TV ad ‘The Crate Escape’ is a humorous take on the popular 1963 film ‘The Great Escape’ starring Steve McQueen.
Set in a remote health spa where a group of men reluctantly join their girlfriends, the ad follows their quest to overcome the unwelcome attitudes and extreme treatments carried out by the spa staff.
In a twist from the original film, rather than escape from the spa, the hero in the ad leads the men’s efforts to smuggle a crate of Carlsberg in.
Music from the Elmer Bernstein score for ‘The Great Escape’ acts as a backdrop.
Carlsberg’s ad is one that translates across all markets – after all, the differences between how a guy likes to spend his time and how his girlfriend likes to spend her time are universal. The ad perfectly embodies Carlsberg’s humour with the proposition of the beer as a reward for achievement and going beyond the call of duty.
