A couple of weeks ago beer-maker Heineken released a new ad based around a stressful job interview in which candidates were put in a number of difficult situations.
Now, rival company Carlsberg has jumped on the ‘stress test’ based ad format and released its latest online campaign where fans of the beer brand are challenged to put friends to the test.
Unsuspecting people are roused from their beds in the early hours of the morning when they receive a panicked phone call from their buddy claiming to be involved too deep in a poker game and owing 300 euros before they can be released.
Ominously, one of them even says: “Come down now or I’m gone.”
When the friend arrives at the scene, they are shocked by what they find. A seedy, dark venue somewhere in a back alley street in Chinatown. Upon entering the house they are greeting by shaven-headed, menacing bouncers, bare-chested brawlers, and other unsavoury sights.
Eventually they are lead to the third floor room where they are asked to hand over the money to secure their friends’ release.
Once that is done, the curtains fall and the gag is revealed, and the Good Samaritan is cheered in a room full of Carlsberg beers.
Sorry to be a bad friend Carlos – but in case you were wondering – I like my sleep too much to be getting up at 3am to save you from a poker game. My phone is normally on silent so you’ll have to call someone else!
