As Co-founder and CEO of Airbnb Brian Chesky puts it, Airbnb has grown to be more than just a way to find alternative lodging and their latest mission is to bring the world together. To do so, and as a special new year’s gift, Airbnb will donate $1 million dollars to its #OneLessStranger campaign. The money will be distributed amongst the user community in amounts of $10 and the idea is to put it towards doing something authentic and benevolent to meet a stranger. All participants are asked to share their experience on social media using the hashtag #OneLessStranger.
With the holiday spirit and New Year’s resolutions fresh on people’s minds, this is the perfect time to roll out an altruistic campaign. It helps foster good feelings and exposes a more beneficent side of a booming company.
To keep track of how this initiative is unfolding, you can visit the #OneLessStranger micro-site that compiles participant’s experiences as documented on social media. It’s inviting layout encourages those who have never used Airbnb to join in the fun.
